New electronics lose value fast, and second-hand buyers benefit: a smartphone or laptop one generation back does almost everything the latest model does, for considerably less. Headphones, smartwatches, cameras and audio gear are easy to find in great condition too.

When buying, ask about battery health, functionality and any screen damage, and agree to test the device together at pickup. Sellers: wipe your data, reset to factory settings and list storage, colour and accessories — a complete listing with charger and box sells noticeably faster. Every device that lasts longer is one less on the e-waste pile.
